U21C Maria Bugler Cup Final
Broadford/Parteen 5-12 Corofin 2-08
Broadford/Parteen concluded their campaign to bring home the Maria Bugler U21C cup with a deserved win over Corofin/Ruan on Monday evening in Fr. McNamara field.
Broadford/Parteen lead for all of the match but a run of frees and a well taken goal in the second-half gave Corofin/Ruan the opportunity to close the gap and put 4 points between the teams leading into the last 15 minutes. However, Broadford/Parteen changed gears and showed great determination. Having suffered defeat in the last two u21 finals, for Broadford/Parteen, this was a must win game and their players responded in style. Some excellent goal keeping by Aoife Boland denied Corofin/Ruan many scoring opportunities while at the other end, Niamh Mulqueen, Sarah Hall and Susan O’Shea were in fine scoring form, helping to push the Broadford/ Parteen girls over the finish line to victory.
Broadford/Parteen had to dig deep as Corofin/Ruan piled on the pressure. Catherine Donnellan showed great leadership in the full back line bringing out many balls from the danger zone. The half back line, Moya Marsh McMahon, Alexandra Troy and Siobhan O’Connell were superb, working hard for each other keeping the Corofin/Ruan forwards at bay.
Aoife Vaughan dominated the play at mid-field covering every inch of the field for the entire 60 minutes.
