Navan RFC began 2024 on the road v Longford RFC. In their 9th game of the season, the team were looking forward to playing away from home into the final legs of the season. Longford were very well prepared for the game and proved an incredibly tough opponent. They continuously put Navan's skill set under pressure. Molly Fitzgerald broke the deadlock after 14 minutes. However, Longford struck back instantly, capitalizing on Navan errors and getting themselves on the board. Leaving the score 5-5 after 20 minutes.
Navan's defense was tested for the remaining 20 minutes but stayed strong to hold out Longford.
After half time Navan got more into their rhythm of rugby, with strong carries from Emily Jo White and Cara Martin. Mairead Carty, Aoife Ryan worked tirelessly around the pitch securing the ball at ruck time for Anita Lennon and Anna Bolger.
The game saw the return of Victoria Quinn who showed her experience across the pitch. She collected loose ball and carried well to give Navan momentum. This gave the team confidence and ensured they could move the ball from edge to edge.
Cara Martin showed her power in midfield, being put into gaps by Michelle Stafford. Kelly Brady's introduction brought new energy to the team, this was followed by Anna McGarry and Leanne O'Neill. Both featured for the first time in Division 3.
Mairead Carty collected a restart, racing down the left wing, with a single handed off load to Aoife Ryan for her to score from 40 meters out. Anna Bolger had a good day off the tee, securing 4 conversions.
The team are delighted to be back on the pitch and are looking forward to their next game v Barnhall at home on the 28th of January.
