Simonstown second team panel made the journey to Summerhill on Sunday morning and captured the league points on offer with last minute free by Jack Melia. Every match in Summerhill has a championship flavour to it. Early first half points from Jack Melia (2),Mark Devlin and Tadgh Hanrahan sent wind assisted Simonstown into 0—5 to 0—2 lead with fifteen minutes played. Three further points Shane McEnery (1f) ,Jack Melia (1f) and Hanrahan form play left the visitors in front 0—8 to 0—5 at the end of normal time. Aaron Farrelly with a fine pass found Jack Melia in space and he finished to the net. Hanrahan fielded the resultant kick out and slotted over to put Sims 1—9 Sumhill 0—6 ahead at the break.
Summerhill had a great start to second half bagging 1—6 without reply to leaev in front by three 1—12 Sims 1—9 at the three quarter stage. Aaron Farrelly broke the Navan mens barren spell with well taken and hard earned point. Shane Barry went on lung busting run and smashed to the net to put Sims a point up 2—10 to 1—12. The Hill tagged on three points (1F) to go two up 1—15 to 2—10 at the twenty minute mark. Barry again charged through the defence and planted in the Hill net and put his team one in front Sims 3—10 to 1—15 with seven minutes left. A pointed Hill free left the teams level with five minutes remaining. The home team threw everything at the Simon rearguard but they held firm with block downs, intercepted passes and tight marking. Deep in injury time a counter attach led to Jack Melia being fouled and he himself stroked between the posts for the lead with thirty two on the clock. There were two further minutes of Summerhill attacking play but Simonstown had the bit between their teeth and held on.
