ACFL Division 3

We kicked off our Division 3 League Campaign on Saturday when we hosted Maryland. Despite the heavy rain in the previous two days up to the game the pitch was in very good condition and all involved in its upkeep are to be commended for having it in such great shape. It certainly lent to the enjoyable game which unfolded with Bun securing a one point win in their first competitive game under the new rules.

Facing into a strong wind in the first half, Bun played extremely well and went into the break 1:08 to 1:06 in arrears. The goal came from Ken Conroy from his rebounded penalty effort. The strong and patient performance in the first half laid the platform for a free flowing second half of football.

Cian Tighe and Brian Maguire added green flags as Bun played some excellent football. Ken Conroy, two from Tighe Noel Yourell all kicked classy points from fast attacks from the back.

To their credit, Maryland didn’t go away and scored some quality points of their own as the wind began to die down as the half unfolded. Jonny Nolan, fresh off the bench, swung over a glorious effort from the top of the D late on which would prove to be the winning score. Maryland closed out the game with the final two points but it wasn’t enough, as Bun held firm with some tigerish defending to hold on for victory.

Team: Tommy Murphy, Conor Newman, Dave Newman, Simon Moorehead, Eoin McGowan, Finian Newman, Luke Kiernan, John Kiernan, Noel Yourell, Enda Newman, Aidan Finnan, Gavin Lyons, Cian Tighe, Brian Maguire & Ken Conroy. Subs: Fintan Finnan for Maguire, Joe Tormey for Yourell, Jonny Nolan for Maguire, Conor Scally & Oisin Finn.

All Ireland Colleges Semi Final

Hard luck to Colaiste Mhuire who lost out in their All Ireland Colleges Semi Final on Saturday against St. Colman’s, Claremorris in Padraig Pearses, Roscommon.

The team and management can be very proud of their efforts this year in winning the Br Bosco Leinster Colleges Title for the first time since 1983. Their success will provide a pathway for their younger peers to emulate in the years ahead.
