Another road tragedy - Theresa Morgan (née Collins)

Following a week of great weather when the sun was shining and everyone had a smile on their faces, the weather took a turn last Saturday, and the rain and black clouds were visible in the sky.

Unfortunately, a much darker cloud hit the Ashbourne area late of Saturday evening when the news filtered around the village that Theresa Morgan had tragically lost her life in a road traffic accident just south of Ashbourne.

Anyone who was a regular on the R135 road south of Nine Mile Stone would have seen Theresa on that stretch of road getting her daily walk in most evenings. She always had a big smile and a wave of acknowledgement for fellow walkers and runners as they met.

Theresa will be greatly missed by her heartbroken family: her daughter Denise, sons Tony and David, their father Noel, and her partner Pat. She is also mourned by her son-in-law Martin, daughter-in-law Jennifer, and her beloved grandchildren Jack, Rose, Emily, and Penny.

Additionally, Theresa will be fondly remembered by her brothers Jimmy, David, Martin, Michael, Dessie, Aidan, Brendan, Tommy, and Stephen, as well as her sisters Janet and Alicia. She leaves behind numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, a wide circle of friends, and her cherished dog Milo.

Theresa would have been a regular visitor to the club when Tony and David were playing, both at underage and at adult level. She was a pleasant and courteous woman who supported her lads with pride and energy, and always had a smile on her face.

Like this weekend, too many times we hear of deaths on the road and sometimes we ignore the news as another statistic. But when it comes to our own doorstep and there is a personal side to the story it really brings it home how dangerous the roads can be and how such a tragedy can affect so many. Donaghmore Ashbourne would like to send our condolences and support to Denise, Tony and David and all her extended family at this tough time as we all come to terms with how fragile life can be.

As a mark of respect for the Morgan Family, the club has decided to postpone our Annual Golf Classic on Friday and will look for another suitable date later in the year. Participating teams will be contacted in due course.

Theresa is reposing at her son Tony’s house, Whitetree Road, Bullstown, Ashbourne, A84FD37, this Thursday 29th from 4pm - 8pm. Removal on Friday morning to The Church Of The Immaculate Conception Ashbourne, arriving for 11am mass. Burial afterwards in St. Declan’s Cemetery.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam.
