Our U7 hurlers were in championship action on Sunday morning against our near neighbours, Newmarket-on-Fergus — but not before a bit of unexpected drama the day before!

During Saturday’s top-secret training session (also known as “Fun Saturdays”), members of An Garda Síochána arrived on the scene and proceeded to arrest several of our star players. Thankfully, after some intense negotiations — and a few nods and winks — it all turned out to be a hilarious misunderstanding. Our young athletes were released without charge and declared match-fit for Sunday!

Come game day, both clubs fielded six evenly matched 5-a-side teams, each playing four fiercely contested 12-minute games. Every match was split into two halves: the first 7 minutes played on the ground, and the final 5 allowing players to rise and strike — marking the first time our U7s were officially let loose to lift the ball in the air. A major milestone!

The skill, spirit, and sheer determination on display from both sides was something to behold. It’s a real credit to the players, who have improved without limits lately — a joy to witness. Their parents and coaches were hugely impressed and bursting with pride.

A massive thanks to Newmarket-on-Fergus for hosting us, and to all the parents who got the kids up and out — especially those still recovering from the Garda incident!
