Clooney/Quin 3-05 Sixmilebridge 1-10
The old saying that 2 points is a dangerous lead was never truer than today in Clooney when our U13 hurlers lost out with a last minute goal to the hosts Clooney/Quin.
Given the Championship table rankings the Bridge boys were in 4th place in their group so they faced table toppers Clooney/Quin from the other group in the last 8 decider.

Having won the toss Clooney/Quin elected to play against the breeze and found themselves 2-00 to 0-01 up after 3 minutes into the game and the signs looked ominous for the 'Bridge. However our boys upped the temp and scored 1-06 without reply reply to lead by 1-07 to 2-00 at the short whistle. The first half goal was scored by Alex Russell  who also added 2 points while Aaron Fitzpatrick (0-02) and Matthew Murphy (0-03 (2F)) also kept the score board ticking over. The 'Bridge defence were immense as they held the home scoreless for the last 29 minutes of the first half.

Clooney/Quin were quickest out of the traps in the second half when they added a point but the Bridge responded with interest adding 3 points from Murphy (2F) to put us ahead on a score of 1-10 to 2-01 with 18 minutes remaining. Four points on the trot for the home side (2 from play 2 frees) saw them reduce the lead to 2 points heading towards injury time before they struck for the heartbreaking goal to win the game by the minimum on the stroke of 60 minutes.

A big well done to our boys who really gave it there all today and were most unlucky not to progress in the competition. A big thanks to their coaches for the huge effort they have put into the team preparations with a special mention to Sean, Luke and Colm who are no parents but gave up their time to continue developing these boys.

Note: Photo above is taken from an earlier round ... Cian and Rhys who were injured in this photo played a big part today.
