Senior Football League Division 10:  Duleek Bellewstown 6-10 Longwood 5-17

Longwood’s reserve team returned from Duleek with two league points tucked into their back pocket after an entertaining, high-scoring contest on Tuesday evening.

Credit to the scoreboard operator who had to be on her toes just as much as the players, such was the volume and frequency of scores over the hour.

Despite playing with the aid of the breeze in the opening half, Longwood took some time to settle.  In fact, they conceded three early goals to the home team before establishing a foothold in the game.  A couple of two-pointers from Sean Sheridan and another from Sam Dixon got the scoreboard moving and it was further embellished by goals from Dixon, Ross Healy and Louis Butler.

This ensured Longwood took a 3-9 to 4-1 lead to the half-time break.  But would the five point margin be sufficient against the breeze in the second half?

Credit to the boys as they worked tremendously hard in the second half.  Young guns Harry Leigh and Conor M Dixon came to the fore, both displaying great composure as they linked the play and coolly retained possession much to the frustration of their opponents.  Leigh caused all sorts of problems with his incisive runs, two of which yielded well-deserved scores.

When the pressure came on during the last ten minutes, Longwood stood firm.  The Sheridan brothers and Sean Carpenter led from the front and ensured the team got their just reward despite a late flurry of Duleek Bellewstown attacks.

Longwood: Kevin Maguire, Jason Kerrigan (Capt), Sean Carpenter, Coyle O’Brien, Harry Leigh (1-1), Adrian Maguire, Josh Meagher, Sean Sheridan (0-7), Ciaran Sheridan (0-2), Conor M Dixon (0-1), Sam Dixon (1-4), Louis Butler (2-0), Ben McLoughlin (0-1), Ross Healy (1-0), Sam King (0-1).  Subs: Liam Foran for Healy.
