Michael Connolly RIP

Kinvara GAA would like to extend our condolences to the family of the late Michael Connolly RIP, formerly of Killina.

Michael jointly held the record of being a member of both our clubs first Juvenile title winning team and also our clubs first County Championship winning team.

In 1957 Michael was centre forward when we won the South Board Juvenile hurling championship. This was our clubs first ever juvenile title.
He followed up in 1959 when being part of Kinvara’s first ever county winning squad, the County Junior Hurling title.

Both those titles were massive for us, and Michael and those players really were the catalyst to push our club forward onto intermediate and eventually senior level.

In that 1957 final, Michael played in centre-forward. He was known as a tough hurler, which he matched with style, a high level of skill, and a keen eye for a score.
In 1959 Michael was a young 17 year old on that historic junior squad. He however had to make way for older brother John who took the centre-forward position on that memorable day.

Only two other players held that unique honour of being on both our clubs ‘firsts’ - the late Paraic Huban RIP and Joe Paul Hanlon RIP.

We send our sympathies to Michael’s wife Mary, their children Maria, Joanne, Thomas and Tony, the extended families, and neighbours and friends, both in Tipperary and Kinvara.
