All at the club are devastated to learn of the death today of Philly Ryan, a stalwart for so many years for our sister club Commercials but who also meant so much to all of us here at St. Mary's.

Philly was a legend in every sense of the word; club player, manager and mentor who also excelled at county level as both a player and showed great pride at being appointed as senior manager to the Tipp footballers in 2024, being instrumental in bringing league games back to the Sportsfield this spring.

Philly was a familiar face at St Mary's games and along with his wife Anna was a frequent supporter particularly when his son Shane was in action, Shane taking after Philly himself as a talented sportsman in both codes.

Outside of our games, Philly was a friendly face around the Sportsfield, always ready for a chat and always sharp of wit.

To Anna, Katie, Amy and Shane as well as Philly's wider family, friends and Commercials and Tipperary GAA we extend our deepest sympathy, and know that in the coming days and weeks we will stand with you in this time of deepest sadness.
