Dicksboro GAA and Camogie Club marked the end of an extraordinary era at the 2025 AGM this week as Seamus Rochford stepped down from his role as Club Chairman, bringing to a close an exceptional 28 years of service on the club’s executive committee. The incoming chairman, Aidan Maher, was formally ratified on the night and paid warm tribute to Seamus’s decades of commitment.
Speaking to members in attendance, Aidan praised Seamus for guiding the club with calm and steady leadership over the past three years.
“As Seamus stands down today as Chairman, it brings to an end an incredible 28-year involvement in our executive committee. His dedication, work ethic, and loyalty to Dicksboro have been immense, and we are deeply appreciative of everything he has given.”
Nearly Three Decades of Service
Seamus’s long-standing contribution to the club began in 1996 when he first joined the executive. He served as Club Treasurer for 23 years, earning widespread respect for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to steer the club through every financial challenge. His final treasurer’s report in 2020 was marked by widespread appreciation, and he was deservedly honoured as an Honorary Life Member that same year.
In 2022, following the retirement of longtime Chairman Eddie Holohan—who served 11 years as Chair and five as Juvenile Chairman—Seamus returned to the executive and stepped into the leadership role, bringing his deep knowledge of the club and his steady approach to governance.
A Lasting Legacy
Although stepping down from official executive duties, Seamus will continue to play a central role in club life. He remains the driving force behind the Tuesday morning volunteer group, a dedicated team responsible for the ongoing upkeep and improvement of the club grounds.
His contribution, both visible and behind the scenes, has shaped the club for more than a generation, and the admiration expressed at the AGM reflected the high esteem in which he is held.
Looking Ahead
New Chairman Aidan Maher now takes the reins, with members expressing strong confidence in his leadership and appreciation for the commitment he has shown to Dicksboro over the years. His appointment marks a new chapter for the club, built on the foundations laid by those who served before him.
