Sixmilebridge 1-15
Wolfe Tones 2-8

Venue - Shannon
Referee - Fergal O'Brien

The clubs fifth team, the Junior Cs played their first league game of the season against Wolfe Tones on Thursday evening. The Wolfe Tones pitch was in great condition considering the recent bad weather and conditions were good on the evening. The Junior Cs have entered the league this year having only participated in Championship last year reaching the quarter finals. The extra games should give manager John Fahy opportunities to see all players available to him before championship.

A tight affair in the first half, Wolfe Tones had a man sent off early in the first half for a foul on Tommy Liddy as he was bearing down on goal. Liddy was injured and unable to take the resulting free, so Donald Devanney stepped up and cooly slotted the free to the corner of the net. Four points then from Liddy kept the scoreboard ticking as well as a nice point after a long solo from wing back Kieran Liddane. Paul Corbett and Donald Devanney chipped in with the other Bridge points in the half to leave the score level at half time, Wolfe Tones having kept in touch with 2 goals. The half time score saw the Bridge at 1-7 against Wolfe Tones 2-4.

The second half saw  a good fightback from Wolfe Tones but the Bridge pulled ahead near the end to run out as 4 point winners. Liddy with a free, '65 and 3 from play kept the Bridge ahead aswell as points from young Liam Sweeney, Podge Flannery and another from Devanney. A good win in the end for the Bridge despite a determined challenge from Wolfe Tones who suffered being a man down for most of the match.

Good for the Bridge on the day were Dunne in the backs, Corbett at midfield and Liddy and Devanney in the forwards. Well done also to young Liam Sweeney and Charlie Keane who made an impact when they came in.
