Ballinteer fight back for a Draw
Fingallians 1-09 Ballinteer St. Johns 0-12
The Ballinteer senior ladies footballers travelled north to Fingallians this week to take on the in-form Swords outfit. On a dry and warm evening conditions were good for football.
The home team started well pushing players forward playing a strong running game & putting the Ballinteer defence under pressure with the cross bar denying the home team an early goal. Great defending by the BSJ girls in their changed white jerseys forced the Fingallians forwards to repeatedly shoot poorly under pressure. At the same time, the BSJ attack was starting to make an impression creating and converting a couple of good scores from Alana Doran and Ciara Kellegher. After 15 minutes Ballinteer led by 0-05 to 0-02 but the Fingallians team rallied to draw level before the BSJ pushed themselves ahead by a single point at the half time break, 0-06 to 0-05.
On the resumption BSJ continued to play intelligent and patient football moving the Fingallians defence around and moving into a 3-point lead with 15 minutes to go 0-09 to 0-06.
At this stage, the home team rallied scoring 2 points to narrow the gap to the minimum before a lapse in the BSJ defence saw them concede a goal. It was end to end stuff at this stage with points being swapped.
Trailing by 2 points into the last 5 minutes the BSJ girls showed great character to get the last 2 scores of the game by Luisagh Guerrine and Eve O’Callaghan to get a deserved draw on the night.
Well done to all the BSJ girls who contributed on the night to a good team performance against a strong and skilful Fingallians team.
Next up for the girls is another away trip when they visit neighbours St. Jude’s on Wednesday 27th May at 7.30.
All support would be very welcome.
