O’Dwyers GAA Club Executive are calling a Special General Meeting (SGM) to significantly change the structure of the Trustees of our club. This will not change the way in which we, as members of our club, operate on a day to day or year to year basis.
Trustees for a GAA club are legally responsible for ensuring that we act in accordance with our club/GAA constitution and they also must sign the legal documents when required for grants, land acquisition, etc.
We currently have 4 Personal Trustees for our club, Liam Howley, Micheal Delaney (Leinster GAA, now retired), Luke Moriarity and Dave Kelly.
As per the latest Croke Park regulations this structure will not allow us to draw down funds such as the Capital Sports Grant. It will also present barriers to us for other legal requirements.
These regulations introduce the concept of a “Corporate Trustee”.
This “Corporate Trustee” is essentially Croke Park and is not affiliated with any business or for-profit entity.
The GAA are advising clubs to move to a “Corporate Trustee” structure that removes the dependence on any individual, to one of the 2 options below.
- Hybrid Trustee Model:
A combination of the GAA Corporate Trustee plus our Personal Trustees. - GAA Corporate Trustee only.
Of course there is a 3rd option where we change nothing and continue as we are with our Personal Trustees.
Note: As per the GAA Constitution, this SGM will have ONLY one agenda item, as above, and cannot discuss any other topics.
