LGF Div. 1: Mullingar Shamrocks 1-4 St Loman’s 3-11.
There was no joy for our Senior LGF team in Springfield on Sunday morning as St Loman’s dominated from start to finish to win comfortably on a 3-11 to 1-4 scoreline. At stake was a place in Division 1 of the county league for the winners. St Loman’s dominated the early stages but this was not reflected on the scoreboard. Two points from Chloe Smullen and a Karen Hegarty shot that dipped under the crossbar for a great goal kept Mullingar Shamrocks in the game and Shamrocks trailed by just 1-4 to 1-2 at the break.
St Loman’s controlled the second half and with Paige Matthews kicking some fine points and scoring two goals added 2-7 to their first half total and restricted Shamrocks to just two Karen Hegarty pointed frees. Despite the scoreline, Shamrocks battled to the end and the focus now transfers to the championship in a few weeks’ time.
