This evening at 6.30pm at the pitch we host a very special event to launch the official opening of our new electronic scoreboard in memory of the late Austin O Connor of Boston and Kinvara kindly donated by his family.

Born and reared in Ardnagrove Kinvara in 1936,Austin begun his hurling in Killina NS in the early 1940’s before he progressed onto the Kinvara juvenile team in the late 40s. From there he moved onto our adult team where he helped us win a South Board title. He would have been known as a strong and tough hurler whilst also not short on the skills either.

Austin followed his older brother Jimmy & many more like them by emigrating to Boston in 1958.
Before he left,Kinvara GAA members made a presentation to him & an article on it appeared in the local Connacht Tribune dated 3rd May 1958.

Austin, through hard and honest work made a life for himself and his family in America and he was ably assisted by his late wife Peggy and their four children.

He was involved in both the hospitality trade and the construction industry.
Many young people from Kinvara will have fond memories of his establishments such as The Green Briar,The Harp and MJ O’Connors.

Many of Austin’s nephews and nieces here have played in our club colours down through the years.

This evening we welcome his daughters Sheila,Caroline & family members from Boston along with extended family members living locally.
