What a remarkable 12 months it has been for our Senior Hurlers, picking up 4 pieces of silverware.
It’s fair to say that Clane Hurling wasn’t in very good health after relegation to Division 2 and the B Championship a few years back. We hadn’t managed to field a Clane Minor Hurling team in 8 years with our young talent having to go down the amalgamation route in order to play at the minor grade. That changed in 2024 when we fielded our very own Minor team reaching the A Championship semi-final. That injection of young talent into our senior ranks re-energised our established seniors and combined with a top class management team helped kick start the current wave of success.
It all started with a thrilling win in the Senior B Championship last year that took us all the way to the Leinster Junior Championship final. The momentum carried us forward into 2026 where we had 2 teams entered in Division 2 and Division 3. The 2nd team buoyed by an influx of talent from our minor team went unbeaten throughout their campaign and overcame Leixlip in a high scoring final on a scorching hot day in Hawkfield.
The 1st team finished the round robin stage top of the table and automatically qualified for the final where they put in a storming 2nd half performance to claim the win. No less than 6 of the 2024 minor team started yesterdays final win with another 3 on the team sheet.
Both teams securing promotion means we will have senior hurling teams representing us in Division 1 and Division 2 next year. In between all of that the lads managed to win the John Reidy Memorial Tournament for the first time with hard fought wins over some serious opposition in Graignamanagh from Kilkenny, Carrig & Riverstown from Offaly and Naomh Moninne from Louth in the final.
Our 2nd team have already commenced their 2026 Championship with a fine win over Leixlip in the 1st round of the Reserve A Championship. Our 1st team have been drawn to face Celbridge, Ardclough and Naas in the group phase of the A Championship which commences on August 26th against Celbridge in Leixlip. It will be a tough test and yet another step up for the lads but one which we have every confidence that they will rise to.
Not forgetting our Minor and under age teams who all did tremendously well reaching finals across all grades and age groups. The future is certainly bright and we sincerely thank all of our coaches and managers from nursery through to senior and we wish them the very best of luck in their upcoming respective championship campaigns.
