Intermediates lose out by 4 to Parteen/Meelick

Parteen/Meelick opened their challenge for Clare PIHC honours with a four point win over Sixmilebridge.

Two second half goals from the team’s vice captain Dara Nolan and eleven points from placed balls by Clare senior hurling panelist Jack Kirwan helped the South Clare outfit to this victory.

For Sixmilebridge it was a second loss in as many outings in this campaign and they will need big results in their remaining group games against Tubber and Corofin if they are to qualify for the play offs.

Cathal Lynch’ goal in the tenth minute separated the sides at the halfway mark with the ‘Bridge leading n a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-8, the respective freetakers Kirwan and Cillian Murphy having landed 0-5 each.

Points were exchanged three times in the opening ten minutes of the new half with a Cillian Murphy free helping the ‘Bridge open a four point lead.

Dara Nolan’s pace was causing problems for the Sixmilebridge defence and he raced through and crashed the ball to the net in the twelfth minute to bring his side to within a point of their opponents.

Sixmilebridge responded well and Murphy and goalkeeper Derek Fahy pointed frees to put them three clear with twelve minutes remaining.

Parteen/Meelick weren’t going away and they landed three in a row to level the tie at 1-14 each with six minutes still to play.

Ronan Tuohy put the Bridge in front again before Nolan applied the finish after the Sixmilebridge defence failed to deal with a delivery from Jack Kirwan.

A Cillian Murphy pointed free had the margin down to the minimum shortly before four minutes of added time were signalled during which Parteen/Meelick landed three pointed frees by Jack Kirwan to seal victory.
