JFC v St Joseph’s
Our winning run in the Junior 1 Football Championship was brought to a shuddering halt under the lights in Kinnegad last Friday evening when we succumbed to neighbours St Joseph’s in an extraordinary Round 4 clash.
While an impressive St Joseph’s side ran out comfortable 5-21 to 3-15 winners in the end, it doesn’t tell the full story. After 14 minutes, we led by 3-3 to 0-1 thanks to goals from Jack Molloy, Cillian Rochford and Jacob Browne. But it all went horribly wrong after that as the winners turned the game on its head with majors from Dean Slevin and Aaron McDonnell as well as a flurry of points to take a 2-12 to 3-6 lead into the break.
The momentum remained with St Joseph’s after the restart when further goals from Ros Elliffe and Jordan McDonnell (two) propelled them to an historic victory. A disappointing result for us, but with three wins from four and key players still to come back from injury, it’s still all to play as the focus now switches to meeting St Paul’s in our final group match.
