Geraldines Senior Ladies defeated Newtown Blues on Sunday 23rd September in Tallanstown to reach this years Senior Championship Final and aim to become the first ladies team in the club to win the top prize in Louth club football having won the junior and intermediate (twice) titles in years past. Playing with a wind advantage in the first half, the girls were on top but weren't clinical enough in converting their chances and entered half-time with a 1-7 to 0-03 that could have been a lot more, given the share of possession that they enjoyed in the first half. The first half scoring was started in outstanding fashion with a Ciara O'Connor goal to the roof of the net along with points from Bonnie Fleming and Helen Ryan points accompanied by free kicks from Lorna Moriarty and Fionnuala Cafferty.
However, after a short Blues revival at the beginning of the second half, the Gers girls stepped everything up a gear. With our defenders leaving nothing to chance at the back, everyone in front of them was determined to stretch the lead and ultimately book our place in the final. The game was put out of reach with goals from Carr and Cafferty and an array of scorers chipping in with points across the 30 odd minutes.
The girls celebrated on the long whistle and news soon filtered through of a Cooley victory in Kilkerley against the Mochtas.
The final is set to take place on Friday October 12th.
