Mungret St. Pauls 2-9 Fr. Casey's 3-7
In Askeaton on Saturday 29 September in an opener to the Intermediate match the Minor Footballers gave their all in what was a great game but Mungret St. Pauls were to be second best on the day in what was a war of goals.
From the off Mungret St. Pauls started strong when they went a goal and point up against Fr. Casey's point. It was another 10 minutes before Fr. Casey's got in a second point which they continued on with their first goal. Another 5 minutes of play Mungret St. Pauls added another 2 points to match Fr. Casey's 2 points.
The second half was where the battle of the goals began, after Mungret St. Pauls pulled their score level with Fr. Casey's. It was Fr. Casey's who scored the next goal replied only 5 minutes later by Mungret St. Pauls along with 2 points to bring Mungret St. Pauls into the lead. This game was a real reminder of the Semi Final where everything had to be put into the game. With 5 minutes to spare Fr. Casey's shot in their third goal, try as Mungret St. Pauls could they only managed to cancel out Fr. Casey's next point when the final whistle was heard.
Mungret St. Pauls are very proud of their minor players who took a defeat on the Tuesday in the hurling Semi Final and had go straight back to football training only to be seen off by a one point loss. We look forward to seeing the minor players who graduate to Senior level next year on our field again.
