U16 Girls Win Championship Cup
Another piece of silverware is heading to Galway Clinic sponsored Maree/Oranmore fc when the clubs u16 girls captured the Championship Cup after defeating a gallant Knocknacarra fc side 1-0 in an exciting final on Sunday last in Eamonn Deacy Park. A Roise Mc Mahon free midway through the second half did the damage in a game they shaded after missing an earlier penalty. There were strong performances all over the park, Janre Luft in goals was steady with Erin O Donnell giving an excellent performance in defence with Ailbhe Doyle, Aisling Quinn, Nicole Duffy and Mc Mahon putting in serious effort throughout the game with Chloe Mooney and substitute Anna Cotter impressing when introduced. A fine win with with coaches Tony Jordan, John Brogan, Pete Campion and Roisin Jacob earning the reward of their labour all season.
Under 17/18s
No joy for our u17/u18 boys who went down in their Cup final going down last Wednesday to Mervue also in Eamonn Deacy Park. There were some good performances from Ben Wright, Kevin Horgan and Caden Okuguni but several close in chances were unusually squandered. Overall a fine season for these lads winning the u18 Connacht Shield and being pipped for the Premier League.
Under 14's
The u14 Premier side advanced to the Galway Cup semi final due against Salthill Devon after defeating Colga fc 4-2 in Oranmore on Saturday. The goals arrived courtesy of a brace from Ryan Mill and goals from Seamie Fallon and Ben Costelloe. In the u14 Premier League the lads were held to a 1-1 draw against a determined Kiltullagh side with Aaron Doyle netting. The u14 division 2 side were presented with their League trophy by Chair of Galway Fa Tom Trill after their 2-2 draw at home v Corrib Rangers. Unbeaten in 14 games, their goals midweek arrived from Luke O Connor and an extra time equaliser from Neal Taylor. Great credit to coaches Tom Reddington, JP Braley and Eoghan Griffin for their hard work all year.
Other Results
The u13 Premier side had an excellent 3-0 home win against Craughwell Utd in Oranmore on Saturday while the u11 Development side under Dan McCormack played a series of games Saturday morning in Eamonn Deacy Park.
Charity Match and End of Season Social
Well done to all involved in Saturdays Charity game in aid of Cadans Little Battle and the subsequent function in the Porterhouse. Well done to organisers Niall and Emma Mc Bride and team organisers David Watterson and Bernie Carr. For the record the Friends of Oranmore FC defeated the Maree/Oranmore fc coaches in a good competitive game reffed by Martin Horgan.
