FT Drumree 3-23 Rathmolyon 2-09
Drumree recorded an emphatic win over Rathmolyon in round 4 of the league to move to 2nd place in the table with 3 rounds to go. The stand out performance came from Josh Wall who had amassed 1-14 by the time referee Paddy Melia blew the full time whistle.
They started brightly with early scores from David Reilly, Shane Troy & Wall who were all dominant in the Drumree half forward line. The 1st goal of the game came half way through the 1st half when a long ball into the Rathmolyon square dropped to Keith ‘Horse’ Rooney who connected sweetly with the ball on the ground to drive it past the Rathmolyon keeper. Points continued to flow for Drumree with Liam Carey & Feraghal ‘Rambler’ Delaney getting their names on the scoresheet with well taken points from play. As the half time whistle blew Drumree were leading by 1-13 to 1-06.
Josh Walls scoring exploits showed no sign of stopping as he picked off a number of early points at the start of the 2nd half both from play & frees. Their 2nd goal was finished superbly by Liam Carey when he collected the ball out wide on the 21 yard line before beating 2 defenders & rifling the ball to the net. In defence Gareth ‘Pony’ Rooney & Gaz Byrne who found himself further out the field than he is use to both defended heroically throughout while goalie Roney Gilsenan had a solid game between the sticks which included a risky flick & swivel over the Rathmolyon full forward inside his own box that he somehow managed to pull off & clear his lines.
Drumree’s third & final goal came when a long ball into the full forward line was won by Rob Lyons who popped a quick hand pass to the onrushing Josh Wall who flicked the sliothar over the Rathmolyon keeper & into the net. As the game came to a conclusion Drumree had amassed an impressive 3-23 to Rathmolyon’s 2-09.
