At our recent AGM, the position of President of St. Mary’s was enshrined onto a long-standing member of the club.

Seamus Leahy, a descendent of the famous Tubberdora clan, a famed GAA and Irish Republican historian, hurling fanatic, educator and gentleman now becomes uachtarain naomh mhuire.

Born in Nenagh, with summers interspersed in Boherlahan, the Leahy family settled in Clonmel from where Seamus and his wife Kay raised their family in Cherrymount. Teaching in Rockwell College was the day job and like so many volunteers amongst the club, the evening time was in the Sportsfield training teams of all ages.

Seamus's involvement with St. Mary's spanned many facets, from training successful teams, most notably, a South four in a row U21 run with Willie Peters by his side and then onto administration roles within the club. He served as Juvenile Chairman for many years before transcribing the affairs of the club in the weekly Nationalist newspaper as PRO.

At County and Provincial level, his nous and sound thinking was often called upon for advice and his input toward the county yearbook was commonplace each November.

Hear and read some of Seamus in story below.

The Leahy family have been heavily involved with the club since Seamus first set foot in the town.

His sons, Kevin, Pat and Emmet all played with Mary's. Kevin has been Chairman and mentored previously, Emmet is a current mentor and teacher in our local primary school spreading the gospel while his daughter in-law Mags, is a leading figure in our camogie scene.

Seamus's grandsons are all current players and he loves nothing better than watching those lads in action in the field.

We look forward to seeing his car perched on the hill once more in 2024 as Club President.
