Dublin Ladies League Div 2 – Round 3

Senior Ladies come up against strong TSST outfit.

BSJ 1-06 Templeogue Synge Street 5-07

This was a game that was a tough test for this young team. After a good start to the league campaign with 2 wins out of 2 including an impressive performance at home in their last match against Clann Mhuire, the BSJ ladies were excited to get back on their home pitch with TSST as the visitors.

Alas on a sunny Wednesday night in Marley with a good crowd present, they met a very well drilled TSST group who, unfortunately for BSJ, brought their goal shooting boots with them.

BSJ started a little slowly and the TSST girls took full advantage. In patches we saw glimpses of the smart & skilful football that the BSJ ladies are capable of. They all worked hard for each other and gave everything and worked some very well taken scores including a great goal just after half time which threatened to make it a tight finish.

To be fair to TSST, though, they showed great skill and hunger on the night and when chances fell their way, they capitalised. With the ball in hand they passed with the accuracy and skill of our Olympic ladies’ relay team changing baton. No mistakes, no errors and created some very well taken goals. By contrast when BSJ created their goal opportunities they just couldn’t make them count against a very well drilled TSST defence. But BSJ did create good opportunities, which is always a good sign, and if they had managed to take 1 or 2 of those it might have made for a closer finish. So some areas for improvement to take back to the training field.

Games like this are good for the development of this young BSJ ladies’ group as it highlights what it takes to be competitive in this league. There were a lot of things BSJ did well and to their credit they kept going until the end. The BSJ girls just met a better team on the night who executed the skills, were a little more efficient in converting their chances and were well organised so well done to TSST on their performance.

Well done to Niamh Leahy the BSJ Player of the Match on the night, who worked tirelessly all evening, contributed a couple of scores herself and inspired her team mates to keep going to the final whistle.

Next up is a trip to Raheny on Wednesday evening the 30th of April. Throw in is at 7.15 Away in St. Anne’s Park (Pitch 10). All support appreciated!
