What an absolute rollercoaster of a final! Our U15A team emerged victorious yesterday, clinching the U15 Premier Division Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout against a formidable Aughrim Rangers side!
On a scorching hot day with only one substitute available, the lads faced an early test, conceding a well-worked goal to Aughrim in the second half. But this team, known for their resilience, simply came alive! Every single player dug deep, working tirelessly and leaving absolutely everything on the pitch.
With just ten minutes left on the clock, the breakthrough came! Dan Connolly netted a crucial equaliser, sending the Rovers faithful wild! Both teams then had chances to snatch the winner in normal time, but the whistle blew, signaling what this team knows all too well: penalties!
And what a shootout it was! Rovers showed nerves of steel, dispatching all five of their penalties with clinical precision! Our hero between the sticks, Sam Czwalina, pulled off an excellent save, sealing the victory and the cup for Wicklow Rovers!
A huge shout-out to the four U14 players who stepped up and were absolutely brilliant, contributing immensely to this triumph. And a special, well-deserved congratulations to Will Carey, who was deservedly named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance!
This momentous victory also marked a bittersweet farewell, as it was Kevin Czwalina's last game as manager. Kevin wishes to extend his heartfelt thanks to all the players, coaches, parents, and families for their unwavering support over the years. It has been an absolute pleasure for him to coach for this fantastic club.
