Sixmilebridge 512 Doora/Barefield 2–3

Last Saturday evening, O’Garney Park hosted the Junior C Camogie Championship semi-final between Sixmilebridge and Doora/Barefield. Having topped their group in the opening rounds, Sixmilebridge enjoyed home advantage — and they made it count with a commanding display from start to finish.

Full forward Rosie Young opened the scoring with the first of her two points from play before Kate Monahan struck for the opening goal — the first of her impressive hat-trick. The Bridge dominated possession throughout the first half, with centre forward Aiveen O’Shea adding 1–1 from play. Midfielder Halle Keogh chipped in with two fine points, while wing forward Sally Harrisoncontributed the first of her two scores. Corner forward Jess Finan rounded off a strong opening half with a well-taken goal to give the home side a comfortable lead at the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Rosie Young again opening the scoring. Harrison continued her fine form, adding three more points (one from a free), while Aobha Carey (0–1) and Monahan (1–1) kept the scoreboard ticking over.

While the attack impressed, much of the credit for Sixmilebridge’s victory must go to their solid defence. Full back Eimear Murray, returning to action after her recent nuptials, and centre back Ruth O’Neill were both outstanding, keeping the Doora/Barefield forwards largely at bay.

In the end, Sixmilebridge ran out comprehensive winners on a scoreline of 5–12 to 2–3, booking their place in the Junior C Championship Final against Whitegate on Sunday, October 19th — a contest that promises to be a thrilling decider.
