Dicksboro St Stephens Day Gaelic Football Match π§πΌπ¦π»ππΆπ¦
Dicksboro Whites 7-6
Dicksboro Maroon 6-3
Well done to all our players who took part in this mornings Gaelic Football match in Palmerstown. Fantastic skills on show from both sides with John O'Gormans maroon charges coming out on top after an epic encounter.
The Whites came out of the traps fast with 3 goals gone in past Seanie Keenan in the sticks before you could say turkey sarnie. Amy Clifford & Lucinda were causing havoc while Eddie the eagle was pulling the strings.
The Maroons worked their way back through big scores from Jenny & Orla Hanrick as Ciara Phelan & Aisling Browne started to win the battle in the middle of the field over Kev Moore & Shark Nolan. The Whites were awarded a penalty when Dan Kenny pulled down Niamh Phelan in the square & up stepped Tommy Farrell to took away the penalty to level up matters. Beans rooted. Game on.
The Whites kicked back into gear on the resumption with Tara, Angela & Caoimhe driving forward. Sarah O'G & Aoife P were keeping the tide at bay but things were starting to look ominous. John O'Gorman rolled back the years with a beautiful give & go with daughter Aobha and then shrugged off his daughter Sarahs challenge to then unleash a rocket to the clubhouse end goal but Maroons custodian Aidan Maher somehow managed to get a hand to the slightly flattening size 5 and force it over the bar. Maroons still alive...just.
To their credit the Maroons rallied & were given a lifeline when a penalty was awarded late on. Up stepped Ciara Phelan, showing leadership as ever, to strike a rocket of a shot off the Brennans End Crossbar that made Deccie Meighans Latte spill. Huge moment. Small margins always on the big days. The Maroons kicked for home afterwards with Niamh Phelan, Sinead Carroll & Tully Cullen lording affairs.
This mornings game was officiated superbly by our own Padraic Moylan who let the game flow to the appreciation of the strong Boro crowd watching on. Thanks to Aidan, Jason, Andria & Yvonne for helping in the clubhouse afterwards. Thanks to Aobha & Edward for organising the players.
