Club Levy – Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the club introducing a levy for 2026?
Westport United continues to face rising costs across facilities, insurance, utilities and general club operations. The club operates and maintains a €6.8 million facility, which carries an outstanding loan, and further investment is required to continue finishing and developing AbbVie United Park.

In addition, the club is responsible for maintaining multiple facilities, including floodlit pitches, astro-turf surfaces, grass pitches, dressing rooms, and other amenities across United Park, the Sports Park and The Point. Match-day and training costs also include referees, lighting, pitch maintenance and facility management.

While the club lotto has traditionally helped fund these costs, participation levels in recent seasons have been low, making it unsustainable. The levy helps ensure that all players can continue to enjoy high-quality facilities in a safe and well-maintained environment.

How much is the levy and who pays it?
The annual Club Levy is €80 per membership for the 2026 season and is included as part of membership.

Is the levy refundable?
Yes. The levy is fully rebateable. Each member or parent/guardian is asked to assist with two club lotto duties per year (two hours total). Upon completion, €40 will be rebated in June and €40 in November.

What happens if I am unable to participate?
Where a member is unable to participate, the levy will be retained by the club and used to support club running costs. However, the club’s preference is that families participate where possible, allowing the levy to be fully refunded, as volunteer support is essential to keeping costs manageable for everyone.

Will this levy continue every year?
The Club Levy will be reviewed again for the following season, taking into account club finances, volunteer participation and operational needs.

How does this benefit players and families?
The levy helps ensure continued access to floodlit training pitches, astro-turf facilities, well-maintained grass pitches, dressing rooms, and organised fixtures with qualified referees. It also supports the ongoing development and upkeep of all club facilities, helping Westport United provide a positive, safe and enjoyable environment for players of all ages.
