It was with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Canon Seamus Mullin, President of St. Joseph’s Miltown GAA Club on Friday.
Canon Seamus Mullin was born on 6th of August 1931 in Kilrush, he was ordained a priest on 17th of June 1956.In 1957 he was appointed to the staff in St. Flannan’s College, Ennis and was appointed President of the College in 1974.
He was then appointed Adm in St. Joseph’s Church, Ennis in 1982 and in 1989 was appointed PP of Miltown Malbay where he remained until the end of his life. He was appointed Canon of the Cathedral Chapter in 1993.
Canon Seamus was a towering figure in our community, whose lifelong love of Gaelic games was evident to all. A passionate supporter and dedicated leader, he gave countless hours to promoting and nurturing the GAA, inspiring generations of players and supporters alike.
The GAA always played an important part in Canon Mullin’s life from his time playing and managing with Kilrush Shamrocks and his involvement with St.Flannans teams during his years in the School as both teacher and President of the College including Munster Senior title (Corn Uí Mhuirí)victory in 1959. Canon Mullin was also the first Chairman of Bord na nOg in Clare and was instrumental in putting structures in place to ensure the development of the underage teams in the County.
Canon Mullin has been our club President since 1989 and was a great supporter of all our teams and showed a keen interest in the running of the club always willing to advise or help out in any way. The joy and pride with which he welcomed Conor Cleary and the victorious Clare hurlers to Miltown in 2024 will live long in the memory.
Beyond the playing fields, his commitment to faith and community shone through his work in the parish, where he served with compassion, wisdom, and unwavering dedication.
Canon Seamus’s legacy is one of service, kindness, and deep-rooted pride in his community and club. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
