U15A Shield Match Report

Last night’s u15A Shield final was played last night in Fr McNamara Park. The conditions just before throw in were biblical and for a while, it was unsure whether or not the match could go ahead. Finally, the referee gave the nod and both teams gladly took the pitch, with the ‘Bridge girls quickly taking the lead and showing that they were intent on taking home the spoils.
Clooney Quin, though, had no intention of making it easy for them and fought hard for every ball, marking tightly and taking their scores when they got the opportunity.
The second half started much the same, with both teams battling hard throughout. SMB, however, lost their captain, Anna Gilligan, 7 minutes into the second half due to a bad injury, and the team dug deep to hold on to their lead. A late goal from Clooney Quin brought the margin back to a mere two points. Clooney battled hard, attacking for the last few minutes but the ‘Bridge defenders remained solid and at the final whistle emerged victorious.
After the match, the girls were treated to pizzas and chips back in the Clubhouse.
Many thanks to Centra for sponsoring Pepsi and Club orange for the girls.
They were also delighted with the cookies baked by  Whisk-bakesbydonna.

Half Time- SMB 2-5 CQ 0-6
