Junior B Camogie Championship Rd 3 Match Report -Vs- Scariff/Ogonnelloe

Sixmilebridge 0-9 Scariff/Ogonnelloe 3-13.

Sixmilebridge hosted Scariff/Ogonnelloe in Round 3 of the Junior Camogie Championship, producing a determined performance in a competitive encounter.

The Bridge started brightly and went into half-time with a narrow lead, 0-6 to 0-4.

Sixmilebridge’s scoring was led by Ruth O’Neill, who produced an outstanding debut display at full-forward. O’Neill was a constant threat inside and showed excellent composure from placed balls, accounting for the majority of the Bridge’s scores.

Mary Donnellan opened the Sixmilebridge scoring with a well-taken point before O’Neill added another point from play. O’Neill then showed her accuracy from frees, converting a number of opportunities to keep the scoreboard moving in the Bridge’s favour.
There was an excellent point from play from Hilary Orpen-Ryan, who took her opportunity well!! Rosie Young added another point from play to contribute to the Sixmilebridge total.

At the other end, Megan Gaule was as always consistent at full-back. Gaule worked tirelessly to deal with the strong Scariff/Ogonnelloe attack and made her presence felt throughout the game. She was ably assisted by her two corner backs Anna O’Doherty and Mollie McCloskey, who both worked hard defensively and helped to limit the Scariff/Ogonnelloe attack.

Sarah O’Grady, operating at wing-back, also put in a committed performance. Her work rate and ability to compete for possession helped Sixmilebridge throughout the game.

There was plenty of good work in the forward line too, with Caoimhe Liddane, Halle Keogh and Jess Finnin all working hard and showing some excellent passages of play as they battled to create opportunities for the Bridge.

After the interval, Scariff/Ogonnelloe bringing on fresh legs managed to finally find the back of the net three times and added further points, ultimately pulling away on the scoreboard. Sixmilebridge continued to battle and added further scores, with O’Neill maintaining her impressive accuracy from frees.

Despite the final score line of Scariff/Ogonnelloe 3-13 to Sixmilebridge 0-9, there were plenty of positives for the Bridge to take from the game. The defensive efforts of Gaule, O’Doherty, McCloskey and O’Grady, combined with the attacking contribution of O’Neill and the hard work of Liddane, Keogh and Finnin provided plenty of encouraging performances.

The Bridge will take plenty of positives from the game and can build on the determined performance as the championship campaign continued against Whitegate Last weekend a battled that is due to be earmarked for a strong repeat of last years county final that saw the bridge stave off the whitegate offence in a draw requiring a replay in Fr Mc Park!
