Drom & Inch  2-07

Boherlahan    1-08

Our U-14 hurlers won the 2018 Mid B Championship in a thrilling encounter against Boherlahan Dualla today in Holycross. The sides met last weekend in the U-12 final with Boherlahan emerging victors that day but the boys in green were not to be denied glory this time around.

Drom raced into a comanding lead and found themselves 1-03 to no score in front after 15 minutes thanks to scores from Darragh Fitzpatrick (x2), Daniel McAllister and a Cormac Fitzpatrick effort that found the top corner of the net. Drom & Inch seemed in full control leading up to half time thanks to a solid defencive effort from the six backs led by Paul Mullen at centre back, Eoin Kennedy and Cormac Cahill operating with fierce energy on the wings. Boherlahan, however were not prepared to surrender just yet and scored 5 quick fire points in injury time led by their captain Jake Canny. Drom & Inch however held out for the remainder of the half and went into the break with a slender 1 point advantage.

Due to an injury from influential captain Sean Duffe, Drom were forced to make some positional changes. Paul Mullen began the second half at mid field and wasted no time in establishing his presence and from the throw in, gathered possession and soloed the whole way through the heart of the Boherlahan defence and dispatched a spectacular effort into the net. Drom were encouraged by some fine performances from Tim Comerford, Conor Gleeson and Jack Costello in the full back line along with the ever energetic Jack Johnson at mid field. The remainder of the match was as tense as the first with both sides trading scores and when Cormac Fitzpatrick fired over a point with two minutes of normal time remaining to put 3 points between the sides it seemed as though Drom were going to hold out. However Boherlahan corner forward Charlie Ryan was quickest to react from a fantastic save from David Kinane to kick home an equalising goal. As the match looked destined to go to extra time, Paul Mullen stepped up to fire over two injury time points, one from a long range free from under the stand side to put Drom back into the lead. Boherlahan were not finished just yet and had one last attack but was snuffed out by a combined defensive effort from the backs.

This win sees Drom & Inch claim the U-14 B title for the first time since 2013. Huge credit goes to the management team of Pat Looby, Maitiu Cahill and Declan Fitzpatrick. Captain Sean Duffe accepted the cup on behalf of the Drom & Inch players in front of the delighted supporters.
