***U12 girls perform well in championship semi Final***

Our under 12 girls put in a powerful performance to defeat GLEN EMMETS GFC in Haggardstown in the Louth Ladies Gaa U12A championship semi final yesterday evening.

The girls made a strong start with Leah Hughes and Tara O’Connor dominant around the middle. Glenn Emmett’s defence withstood the early pressure and we only had a solitary point from Rebecca Baldwin to show for the first 7 minutes. After a few wides, the Gers began to find their range slotting over some fine points from Sophie McArdle and Grace Rodgers. Leah Hughes then provided 2 defence splitting passes after fine catches to release Aine Finnegan who calmly dispatched both chances for 2 goals in 5 minutes. Another goal followed after a superb series of passes from the half back line finished with Grace Rodgers firing to the top corner of the net from the 21. Sophie added another great score to leave the Gers winning 3-4 to 0-1 at the break. Glenn Emmetts battled hard but found Kiera Kenny and Katie Owens were marking very tight at the back and winning most ball that came in. Amy Craven put in a great half up front working tirelessly, while Nessa Norton and Eliza Logan were letting nothing past them in the half back line.

Katie O’Reilly and Saorla Sharkey were introduced at half time and gave very solid performances. The Geraldines continued to pass the ball well and create chances despite a difficult cross wind. Keelan Bewley was a constant threat winning lots of ball and passing intelligently and added a good point. Leah Hughes added two super points and while Tara O’Connor covered a huge amount of ground both in defence and attack and was rewarded with a superbly taken goal after a fine run. Sophie and Grace added another point each from distance before Rebecca Baldwin scored an outstanding point from way out on the left wing after an incisive run. Ruby Greene was very solid in goals and gave great accurate kickouts.

Rebecca McConnell was introduced at full forward and almost immediately scored a point. The Tullyallen girls never stopped and came back strongly in the last 10 minutes to score 1-2.

Nia Halpin, Emmy Jeytoo, Clodagh Corcoran and Sarah Goss all came on to good effect and the score at the final whistle was Geraldines 4-11 Glenn Emmetts 1-3.

The girls will face a tough test in the final when they play Cooley Kickhams next week. Before that we play St.Feckins in the final of the Patsy Thornton Memorial Cup in Haggardstown on Sunday at 10am.
