Under-14 LGF League: Mullingar Shamrocks 0-5 Coralstown Kinnegad 2-10
Our Under-14 girls played their first league match of the year in Springfield on Tuesday evening against a strong and experienced Coralstown Kinnegad team.
The Mullingar girls, captained by Katie Matthews, played with the wind in the first half and matched their opponents on the score board with a score line of 0-4 to 1-1 at half time, points coming from Molly Maguire (0-2) and Abigail Molloy (0-2) include a pointed free following a foul on Eabha Moran as she closed in on goal.
Keeping their opponents to only two scores in the first half was a great achievement and was a result of some great defending, with a standout performance from Róisín Nohilly at cornerback.
The wind picked up in the second half, in favour of the visitors, and the tide turned against the Mullingar girls. This didn’t stop them battling hard throughout the match, with Adeline Bowen picking up a point from a penalty.
Great credit is due to our girls who never gave and showed great pride in their jersey against a much fancied Coralstown-Kinnegad team.
Well done girls, there will be better days ahead.
