It is with great sadness that we learned this morning of the passing of John Normoyle.

It was our great privilege that John came to live amongst us in Clarecastle. Never denying his roots in Paradise or the challenge and joy of growing up in the Rural Ireland of the 1940s, he relished progress and made a significant contribution.

A person of the highest integrity, he was a pillar in our community and a committed Magpie, while always respecting others. Through his work in Roche/ Syntax and his involvement in the parish, he has shaped this place.

For over 30 years we've had the great fortune to have him on board and to drive many developments. His single greatest legacy was the management of the field development in the 1990s where he gave his all on a voluntary basis to bring about one of the finest Club developments in the country. This was done after much research and careful planning, the engagement of leading agronomist and contractors and minute day-to-day control and management of the project.

In 2011 and 2012 John served as Honorary Club President.

Throughout John was a man of absolute integrity, always constructive in what he said and did, respectful of others and diligent. He gained the respect of all who knew him or came in contact with him. Above all he was a friend. Few if any have made a greater contribution to this place.

May he now return to Paradise with the words of welcome ringing from above for a life well lived.

We offer our deepest sympathies to his wife Mary, daughters Geraldine, Siobhan, Ursula, son John Jnr and to the extended Normoyle families.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
