The Saints earned a deserved 3 points in treacherous conditions away against Fermoy on Friday night.
We started the strongest of the two sides and had numerous chances to take an early lead, most prominently from Danny O’Shea who was unlucky not to find the target from close range.
Fermoy slowly found their rhythm and grew in to the game, Aaron Murphy, Eric Goggin and Liam O’Brien coped brilliantly with the pressure to maintain a clean sheet heading into the break.
We started the second half much like the first as we dominated proceedings. Scott O’Callaghan wreaked havoc on the Fermoy backline and did everything but find the net, we had the feeling that our goal was imminent.
We finally found the breakthrough when Colin O’Keefe powered down the left wing, guided the ball to the overlapping Tiernan Daly who in turn found Luke Thompson free at the edge of the box to slot the ball into the bottom left corner. A lovely team goal worthy of winning any game. 0-1
Fermoy knew they had to push for an equaliser with 20 minutes remaining on the clock. Ryan Daly and Aaron Murphy stood tall at the back to help the Saints see out the game and collect an important 3 points for their troubles.
Some big performances today by Liam O’Brien, Cian Hogan and Scott O’Callaghan but the Man of the Match goes to Luke Thompson in the middle of the park for his tiredless efforts keeping the Saints in control and most importantly, scoring the decisive goal.
