Naas 8-13

Cappagh1-06

Naas travelled to Cappagh on Tuesday to play the second round of Division 2 Senior League. Both teams started with great focus and the play flowed from end to end . Naas registered the first score with a point from Aoibheann Woods playing as corner-forward while Cappagh responded with a point from Joanne Mulligan operating as centre- forward for the home team. The Naas players engaged in some fine passing movements which were rewarded with two great points from Eimear Dempsey who darted through and confidently took her opportunity to edge her team ahead. Cappagh , once again , faced the challenge and Maebh Grogan rattled the net to give her team a one point advantage. The Naas team continued to exert pressure on the Cappagh defence and converted this pressure into a flurry of goals. Clara Mc Donnell, the Naas half-forward registered a hat-trick of goals in the space of ten minutes and gave her team an eight point lead. This was a major turning point in the first half of this match Cappagh were not deterred and launched a sweeping attack , but the Naas goalie Aoife Mc Auliffe saved a fine shot and safeguarded their lead. The Naas defence thwarted the Cappagh attack very effectively ; particularly the full- back line ; Aoife Keane , Rachael Corrigan and Leah Mc Cormack clearing their line while their half backs , Louise Murphy and Sarah Whelan and Ella Mc Andrew played a very attacking role and the latter contributed a point from play. Caoimhe Long, who replaced Louise Murphy due to an injury, also played a vital role in defence. Naas continued to increase their tally as Aoife Mc Carthy flicked an overhead ball into the net while Cappagh notched up a further four points only to have another point scored .by Áine Conway; the Naas centre-forward. The final score of the first half was another Naas goal, courtesy of Aoife Mc Carthy leaving the visitors ahead on a score line of Naas 5-05 Cappagh 1-05.

Naas resumed the second half with the same intensity and credit to Cappagh they fought back gallantly and registered the first score of the half. The Naas mid- field; Dervla Hanafin and Claire Mac Gabhann, continued to work tirelessly and gained valuable possession which allowed Naas to extend their lead. Naas were intent on raising their goal tally as Hannah Enright, Sophie Kirwan and Aoibheann Woods scored three more goals .The Naas half forward Deirdre Doyle ably assisted by Aoife Mc Dermott, Neasa Mc Phillips , Roisin Mc Dermott and Amy Maguire distributed the ball very well and extended the Naas lead with further points.
