Sixmilebridge Junior Camogie Impress on the Road to Whitegate!!
Following on from our intermediate sucess last saturday Sixmilebridge Junior Bs made the long journey to Whitegate in East Clare for their fourth-round Junior Camogie encounter and returned home with an impressive performance following a strong display from start to finish.
The Bridge settled into the game well, with Mary Donnellan opening the scoring with a superb point to get the scoreboard moving. Emily Reddin then found the back of the net to register Sixmilebridge’s first goal of the afternoon.
Caoimhe Liddane added a point from play before Emily Reddin converted a free from distance to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Mary Donnellan was proving a constant threat, and her long-range effort from the sideline dropped all the way into the Whitegate net, giving the Bridge a valuable boost before the break.
At half-time, Sixmilebridge led by 1-3 to 0-1.
The Bridge continued where they left off after the interval. Just three minutes into the second half, Jess Finnin struck for a goal to extend the advantage. Jess followed up with a point soon afterwards as Sixmilebridge continued to apply pressure.
Emily Reddin then produced another decisive moment, sending a free from distance all the way to the net for her second goal of the game then adding another point from play as the Bridge continued to dominate proceedings.
The scoring was completed by Mary Donnellan, who produced another outstanding effort from distance while in full flight to round off an excellent individual performance.
At the other end, Sixmilebridge were equally impressive defensively. Megan Gaule put in a solid performance at full-back, while Eve O’Reilly worked tirelessly at corner-back.
Ardia O’Halloran was outstanding in the half-back line, producing a series of excellent block-downs and turning over possession before making good clearances into the forwards and helping to launch attacks from defence. Alongside her, Ruth O’Neill formed part of a solid defensive unit, dealing confidently with everything Whitegate threw at them.
Heidi Connelly and Halle Keogh put in a tireless performances, linking the defence and attack throughout the game. Their work rate and intelligent running caused Whitegate plenty of problems, with both players making excellent runs through the Whitegate defence and helping to keep the Bridge on the front foot.
It was a thoroughly committed team performance from Sixmilebridge, with excellent attacking play matched by a resolute defensive display. The long trip to East Clare proved worthwhile as the Bridge advanced from the fourth round with plenty of positives to take from the afternoon. FT SCORE SMB 04.06 WTGE 01.05
Next Up: Shield Semi-Final The Bridge now turn their attention to the Shield semi-final, where they will face The Banner.
The semi-final takes place on Monday, October 5th, under the lights at O’Garney Park, with throw-in at 19.00pm.
A big night awaits, and the Bridge will be hoping to carry the confidence and momentum from their excellent performance in Whitegate into what promises to be another exciting encounter.
