After having their first round KMS match postponed the Nicks took two points in their first outing of the season under the new rules. Both teams were rusty and a strong breeze also effected the play. The Seans, playing into the wind, took an early lead with a goal and a point from play. Phillip Kirwan struck first for the nicks from play. two Paudi Downey frees were matched by two frees for the visitors. Kirwan's second from play had the Nicks down by two at the break.
Playing against the conditions in the second saw the home side quickly get all square with two Fionn Meagher points from play. Hayden Quinn then found the back of the net to put St.Nicholas in front for the first time in the match. A fine solo effort from Alex Finneagan and another Downey free left too much to do for the Mountrath men and the Nicks took the victory by the minimum.
