Mullingar Shamrocks regain Scór Sinsear  Tráth  na gCeist title

The Mullingar  Shamrocks Tráth  na gCeist team regained the Westmeath County  Scór Sinsir title in The Downs GAA Club on Saturday evening. The team of Tom Hunt, Richard and Conor McKenna and Davy Gavin just pipped their great rivals and defending champions St Joseph's to the title winning on a score of 71 to 69 with Ballycomoyle in third place with 56 points. Shamrocks held a 47- 43 lead over St Josephs at the conclusion of the table quiz segment with Ballycomoyle in third place on 38. St Joseph's closed the gap in the four individual rounds and  in the end just a single individual  question separated the teams.
This victory is dedicated to the memory of Detty Cornally without whose persistence there would have been no Tráth  na gCeist team. Detty as we know didn't understand the meaning of no and every year we were roped in to compete. We remember also Joe Niland who was ever present on the Mullingar Shamrocks Tráth  na gCeist team while he resided in Mullingar and was a wonderful quiz competitor.

Mullingar Shamrocks captured the Johnny Garvin Cup for the seventh time on Saturday evening having previously won the title in 2005, 2009, 2010, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Johnny Garvin, a first cousin of Davy Gavin, was a magnificent Scór competitor and represented St. Malachys GFC in several events especially on the club's great Tráth  na gCeist team.  The trophy dedicates to Johnny's memory  was first presented for competition  in 2001 and since then only St Joseph's with 18 titles and Mullingar Shamrocks with seven have inscribed their names on the trophy.

Well done also to Katie McCarthy who represented the club in the Amhránaíocht Aonair – Solo Singing competition. Katie performed a super version of The Town I Loved So Well but unfortunately on this occasion there was no County Title for our two time All-Ireland Scór champion.

And lastly we were treated to the fine singing of Darragh McCabe who sang the National Anthem to start the night's events.
